Collecting Louisa May Alcott
The first part
of Alcotts immortal Little Women was published in 1868.
More than 100 years after her death, two posthumously published
novels, A Long Fatal Love Chase (1995) and Inheritance
(1997), reached the best-seller lists. Such is a testament to the
unwavering popularity of her books.
Louisa May Alcott: A Checklist of
First Editions
Alcott provides
a plenitude of challenges for her enthusiastic collectors. Only 2,000
copies of the first volume of Little Women were printed.
Brian Jacques and Redwall
Jacques grew up
in the tough neighborhoods around the docks in Liverpool. The hard
environment, combined with his taste for adventure stories written by
such masters as H. Rider Haggard, Rafael Sabatini and Robert Louis
Stevenson, fired his imagination. He is best known for his Redwall
series, which begins with Matthias, a young mouse who resides in
Redwall Abbey.
A Jacques Checklist
There are
currently 17 books in the Redwall series. The first book may be the
most expensive, but it is not the most elusive.
